Guilty
Pleasures – A Weekly Dance Night in Allston
Commodore Vic and Seth Damascus-Kennedy Present Guilty
Pleasures, a
weekly dance night of music from the late 70's and early 80's.
WHERE / WHEN: Guilty Pleasures takes place every Wednesday at The Common
Ground Bar & Grill, 85 Harvard Avenue in Allston, Massachusetts. The music
starts at 10 PM. The event is intended for those of legal drinking age.
SUMMARY: Guilty
Pleasures features dance music from the past 30 years, with a strong focus on
keyboard-tinged R&B, new wave, disco and "Blue-eyed soul" from
the late 70's and early 80's. That means lots of Donna Summer, Hall &
Oates, and New Order to keep the anglophiles happy.
Cross-armed hipsters beware: We are
out to crack your shell, and possibly shave your beard. Guilty
Pleasures is a night for music snobs to come down, put their intellectual
prejudices on hold and embrace the physicality of a great dance song. Pabst
Blue Ribbon sipping scenesters may end up silently cursing their own innate
humanity as they experience involuntary pelvic gyration.
QUOTABLE: "We
have nothing against current dance music, we're sure to blur the lines a bit
and play some Sean Paul or Kylie, but this stuff from 1982
is what we're mad for." - Commodore Vic
"All the records that've been sampled in hip hop for the past
twenty
years, the Bill Withers and Boz Skaggs, that's what we're giving you,
in their original form." - Seth Damascus-Kennedy
ABOUT THE DJS: Commodore Vic, host of WZBC's Olde Dope Peddler Show/Podcast, has been involved
with local radio for the past six years, even spending twelve months with the
short-lived RadioBoston.com. Commodore Vic has been a frequent guest of DJ BC
& Lenlow's Mash Ave at The Independent in Somerville as well as at various
'ZBC-themed nights at River Gods in Cambridge. When not djing, podcasting, or
feeding his ferrets, Commodore Vic occasionally finds the time to make noise
with his own appropriately titled indie rock band, Bad Boyfriend.
Seth Damascus-Kennedy keeps busy in
Boston, playing drums and keyboards in local bands like Chop Chop, Karacter,
& Lifestyle. He's also developed a reputation for throwing notorious
Wham/George Michael-themed house parties in the wilds of rat &
bedbug-infested Allston. Seth is the proud owner of more baseball-related
clothing and merchandise than can be sanely justified, including an Expos
vending machine which he keeps locked in the relative the safety his bedroom.
As well as djing Guilty Pleasures, Seth Damascus-Kennedy
can be found spinning hip-hop Friday nights at an undisclosed basement
location.
